John was born on July 22nd, 1878 in Dundee.1  John's father was Charles Ewen and his mother was Margaret Findlay.  His paternal grandparents were Andrew Ewen and Elizabeth Heanton??; his maternal grandparents were Charles Findlay and Ann Edward.  He was an only child.
